After quitting my job as a producer for 2 years, I started freelancing as a video-journalist; a career option which will further my goal in making documentaries. So, I learnt on the job with a LOT of help from YouTube tutorials. I learnt the basics in the multimedia journalism course where we were taught to shoot on a flip camera. I consider my foray into video-journalism as a crash course for me in filmmaking, forcing me to wear different hats- shooter, editor, producer and director. After 2 years of shaky video work I finally have the confidence of producing a decent piece-be it long or short format. But decent is not good enough. If selected, this scholarship will be a structured crash course for me in filmmaking. I say structured because Brian Rapsey comes with 20 years of experience and working alongside Brain will give me access to troves of information and technical know-hows furthering my chance as a good filmmaker. I moved my base from New Delhi to Dharamshala last year to work on a documentary. Moving to a smaller place worked out cheaper giving me the freedom to invest time and money into projects, which will enhance my skills as a filmmaker. I have a LOT of ideas for video projects but I am struggling with the process of putting the ideas into tangible outcome. The exposure and the platform provided by World Nomads will be a rejuvenating experience through which I can find different means to help realize my goal as a ‘good filmmaker.’
