My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Most people take photos to share a place, an event, or an experience. I want my images to make the viewer wonder what is beyond the image. I want him/her to crave the scents, tastes, and sounds. A place is so much more than just what you see, it’s all of the senses combined, and the emotions those senses create.
I recently returned from South East Asia. At the start, I would post photos online for friends/family to view. Yet, I felt unsatisfied. I was having such profound experiences, through the people I met or things I did, but my postcard landscapes and tourist landmark shots just weren’t cutting it. So I began approaching my photography differently, paying more attention to detail, attempting to weave a story. I am still learning. To work with Jason Edwards would be the ultimate learning experience. The Middle East has always fascinated me. I’m ready for something so different, something that will truly push me. Many don’t ever get the opportunity to experience what else our planet has to offer. Yet, the right image can create wonder, an experience in itself. I want to learn to photograph in order to create that sort of experience for others.
