Johnny Ray DeMaine's Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Austria | Monday, October 31, 2011 | 5 photos

I am fully aware that I see the world a little differently. My eyes have a funny way of affecting my body, conscience, and my heart. It has led me to be adventurous, spontaneous, and appreciative of the beauty the world offers. I have learned that I can reach out and grab it and that is something I know I will never lose. It is something special, a connection that not every human being has. The ability to fully appreciate our surroundings instead of drifting along with tunnel vision of money, media, or luxuries made by man to distract us from the world we have already unconditionally been given. Knowing this has granted me with some of the best experiences of my life and allows me to lead a life of fulfilment, surprises, and endless opportunity. Mixing this with my love of arts and photography in particular, the result is not only good work but self-contentment as well. I search and try to take every opportunity that comes my way. There are endless things to learn in this world and I don’t plan to ever stop collecting knowledge or broadening my horizons. It is what drives me each and every day. A small example, one year ago I moved to Austria and the unique opportunity to learn the German language was presented to me. I worked very hard and still do every day, but I can’t say how many compliments I have gotten on how successfully I have adapted to a new language. The work pays off. I know I have talent; it’s within me and shows itself in many different lights. I have the mindset, I am willing and nothing can hold me back. I simply try to succeed and in return help others to do the same.
