I nearly had a disaster today. While riding back from the Keys, I wanted to get photo of the longest bridge that goes for 7 miles. Riding down a side road to get to the water’s edge, I nearly drop the bike riding over some small rocks after my foot slipped out on the rocky gravel. I finally get the bike parked on a concrete footpath and take some great shots. After putting the camera gear away and suiting up, I realise I have parked the bike on an elevated narrow path and I cannot turn it around. To make things worse, I am parked downhill and cannot push the bike out backwards. I am stuck! Doh doh doh doh doh....!
Next I hear a voice coming from under the bridge, “What’s happening brother..?” I look up and there are two guys sitting under the bridge. This guy starts walking down the stairs towards me. We get talking. He looks like he lives under the bridge and doesn’t smell the best. I explain my problem and ask if he can give me some help. “Noooo prawblems brother..!” 10 minutes later we struggle but push the bike out backwards.
These guys were rapped to get $20 buck to buy some dinner. Thank god they were there because otherwise I would have been stuffed. I rode off thanking my lucky stars but still kicking myself for being so stupid. After 18 months of not riding... I have obviously forgotten some do’s and don’ts! I think I will stay on the black stuff from now on.
