My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Myanmar | Thursday, July 4, 2013 | 5 photos

I work in the world. My work has taken me into many countries. I spend time meeting people, learning about the history and cultures. I try to understand and respect the places I go. And, I have tried to tell stories about where I have been.

Myanmar is a very special place. The last few years have witnessed such radical change. There have been years of oppression and dictatorship followed, only recently, by such an uneasy openness. Over the last two years, I have spent almost seven months traveling and working in the county. It is hard to imagine a people with more reason to be on edge, and yet I am forever met with open smiles and curious eyes. All I find with the people that I meet is kindness and calm. There is an unexpected openness in my friends there. There is an openness in the strangers.

I can't do their story justice. I want to. There are many stories I would like to tell and people I would like to champion, things that I have seen and places that I have experienced. I think I am close, though. I want to be.

I work in the world. I want to be able to speak of what I see. I want to tell the stories with the images I capture. I would like your help
