My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I’ve always loved to tell stories. Ever since I learned to read, I knew I wanted to tell stories of my own. I dreamed of becoming a journalist, and chose English as a major in University. However, after 3 years of study, I realized my love for photography was much more than a simple hobby. So I saved and invested in a dslr, studied photography online and created a Facebook page showcasing my photographs.
I developed an extreme respect for travel photography. I discovered a picture, (as a medium) really is worth a 1000 words. So I have chosen to pursue photojournalism as a career. I see photography as an expressive language that has the power to change people’s perspectives, capture the essence of an event and unite people in difficult times.
I hope to share different perspectives with my photography, provoke thought and discussion, and encourage change. I want to learn how to create visual stories that are compelling as well as captivating. So when I saw the commercial for the World Nomads Travel Scholarship it seemed like a stroke of fate. I have the passion and persistence to make my dreams a reality. It is with sincere gratitude I present my humble submission to the contest.
