My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

In September, I travelled from Belgium to visit the Balkans (Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia). A friend of my girlfriend invited us to his wedding party in Skopje (Macedonia) and the cheapest way to reach Skopje was to fly from Charleroi to Sofia, get the bus in direction of Skopje and return via Belgrade (Serbia).
At the bulgarian boarder with Macedonia, the police control from Macedonia was unable to recognize my portuguese ID... I was forced to stay one night more in Bulgaria and my girlfriend went to Skopje to explain my situation to the official institutions. They told her that it shouldn't have been a problem... in the end I spent more money than I expected in Bulgaria just because of a mistake in the boarder control.
While I was waiting for my bus a "hippie van" arrived and I thought it was my opportunity to get in Skopje more fast. After half an hour waiting for them to pass the boarder control, I went there to see what happened and asked if it was possible to get a ride from them. They were two Austrian guys and a Macedonian girl. They gave me a positive answer but we needed to wait for the inspection of the van (which took also a while). After three hours driving on the sunny macedonian roads we arrived in Skopje.
I was very happy to be together again with my love. She was waiting for me with her friend. We gave each other a big hug and the rest of our Balkan adventure was just perfect.
