Charming Old Dame

ITALY | Tuesday, 26 May 2015 | Views [112] | Scholarship Entry

Venice, known also as “Old Dame” - considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the world - city situated on the water. Proudly presenting itself as an elegant lady. The buildings stay stable among the canals filled with water. From the windows of the houses placed on opposite sides of the canals hung cords, on which the laundry waves in the wind.

I glanced up, something in style of old pantaloons and women's pyjamas was swaying the wind. For a moment I felt like I was in the past. Even gondoliers completed the look like time herself had stopped still. Dressed in old style clothing, carrying tourists on theirs gondolas and showing them the wonderful places of “Old Dame”.

I almost expected someone to come around the corner with a sword and a hat, adorned with black feathers, and with red clothing extending under from a bit rounded armor on his chest. Dressed in dark pants and old black leather shoes scraping on pebbled ground completing the look... However nobody comes.

Even so “Old Dame” showed me a lot of her other attractions, St. Mark Square, the gondoliers, a famous bridge from where the view of Venice is magnificent. She showed me also, stripped of its plaster a city made of red bricks.

All of these holes and damaged walls are looking like abrasions and injures on the skin of “Old Dame” but still she carried herself like a majestic lady. Its only adds to her charm and encourages to discover all her secrets.
