My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I recall sitting in the student lounge at university 13 years ago, listening to my friends’ discuss cover letters and job interviews, when, out of the blue, I knew that I would put the next stage of life on hold and go explore. It was that sudden wanderlust that led me to spend the next year travelling alone, and it was on that trip that my interest in photography was born while watching a friend snap photos of Sydney Harbor using his granddad’s Leica.
“The core of man’s spirit comes from new experiences” is a favorite quote and captures how I view life. A friend once asked why I love travelling and my answer was simple: to explore new places, experience new things and meet new people. It has been my time spent exploring that has left me with both a greater appreciation for, and curiosity about, using photography to diarize life’s special moments through pictures, whether it is capturing a human emotion or shooting a vast landscape.
Listening to Mattias Klum speak at the “National Geographic Live!” series inspired me to pursue this opportunity with a view to making travel photography my world as well. The hands-on experience in Oman would be an incredible way to start!
Thank you.
