My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

My nationality is South Korean, but I'm a uni student in Brisbane, Australia. I've been living in Brisbane for 7 years now, and enjoy travelling to Gold Coast during holidays.
Since Gold Coast is such a popular place for holidays, everyone imagines exotic sights and glamorous clubs and bars. As a photographer, I wanted to break this stereotyping and portray the other side of Gold Coast. I wanted to express the loneliness of it when all the tourists have left. By sunset, everyone leaves the beach for dinner, casino or some other forms of entertainment. Therefore, I thought it would be interesting to illustrate the lonely side of Gold Coast, which many people do not seem to notice.
I happened to find out about this event by one of my lecturers at university. Since I'm studying to become a journalist, I thought this is such a great opportunity for me to learn real-life skills from a professional photographer. It is even more exciting that the destination is Bhutan; I was dying to travel to Bhutan ever since I saw an incredible pictorial last year. I'm also addicted to trekking or mount climbing. Every time I go back to South Korea for holidays, I spend most of my time climbing different mountains in Korea. In addition, I'm quite fond of Bhuddism, so it will be so exciting to visit Bhuddist temples in Bhutan.
This seems such a perfect experience for me. I know that my photographic skills are far from good, but I would really appreciate a chance to improve my skills and hopefully it will help me to find a better career in the future.
