My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

This is my home town. Small ancient town called Asenovgrad in Bulgaria. It is situated beneath Rhodopa mountain.

This is my home town. Small ancient town called Asenovgrad in Bulgaria. It is situated beneath Rhodopa mountain.

The Asen' s fortress is standing on a hill high above the town. In the past it was built and used to protect the town and the big valley ahead of it. Now remains only the church and it' s the most significant monument of the culture. Also it is a favorite tourist destination.

Now you see the old ruined parts of a place once called Metoh. It was used for a shelter by the traveling monks who stopped by to visit the town,because of the numerous churches(15) , chapels (58) in it and 5 monasteries around.This is why the town is also known as The Small Jerusalem.
