Sharing Stories - A Glimpse into Another's Life - The Reality in Museums

PHILIPPINES | Saturday, 6 April 2013 | Views [205] | Scholarship Entry

I believe that museums are one of the best spots we could find on a specific place and this is a must to visit. It is where we could generally understand the culture, history and beliefs of the individual living in the place, but, I do believe that it is still better to see this in real life and reality.

When I was on my younger years, I found museum as a boring place; all I could see was the pictures displayed on the walls, artifacts placed in a glass room, map of the place and figures of people. I really can't appreciate this things and this place before.

Until one time everything changed. I visited Philippine Military Academy found in Baguio City; this is a training school of the future Armed Forces of the Philippines. While walking on their clean grounds, I am able to see Cadets passing by with their complete uniforms and military gestures, here I have seen how disciplined they were. On the wide grass area, were displayed big cannons, huge helicopters and rusted war weapons and it is very much obvious that this were once used but still in good shape. Finally, I am able to visit the training area of the Cadets; I found a swimming pool, gym area, wall climbing area, hanging bridges with water below it, rope climbing area; it is something that amazed me, this were the things I could only see in action movies.

My last stop was the museum, It is a big white building; upon entering the door, the life size military figures welcomed me. On the walls were paintings and pictures of the respected military officers and heroes. The artifacts displayed on the box glasses made me wow! for the first time and even got interested in studying the artifacts more. The map was very unique! When pressing the button of the place you want to visit, the place will light up in the map. Going around the museum makes me more learned about the military life.

This was the start of me loving museums; I found it a great place now. I am lucky to see the reality beyond what is displayed in museums. I am not only able to understand the culture and history; I also had a chance to glimpse the Life of Cadets and in the military.
