Enhancing Food Security in Ghana, West Africa

Agri-business - Giving back to farmers

In May 2013 I began a 12 month volunteer 'opportunity of a life time experience,' producing documentaries and content for NGO’s in culturally vibrant Ghana.

I set off on my journey with my H4N audio recorder and boom mic to work alongside Ghanian radio stations to develop agricultural programs to help enhance food security in Africa. The experience was hands on creating content from research based field trips; interviewing farmers about their enhanced crop yields, and terrible experiences selling their produce for a fair market price.

After 12 months volunteering in Ghana, I skipped my flight back to Australia, had a Cannon 6D DSLR camera sent over and I began freelancing. I co- shot a feature length documentary focused on artisanal small-scale mining, which showed at AFRIFF (African International Film Festival), and worked with a journalist from Al Jazeera and Australian TV Network SBS, shooting footage and interviews for their National Dateline Program; and assisted with content for British Airways' in flight movie promoting Ghana.

I'd LOVE the opportunity to pursue a project in visually rich Columbia, and work with a seasoned professional like Brian Rapsey. My objective is to help further my technical and creative skills as a film maker and my motivation is to be inspired by stories of people living in marginalised communities, focusing on the beautiful, positive, engaging and funny sides of cultures that are usually portrayed in a less positive light.
