The Reality of Teenage Motherhood

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Philippines | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 4 photos

With the Philippines rank as the 12th most populous country in the world and with the claimed record that the 6th and 7th billion people are born in this country, I found myself headed to a nearby rural community to document underage moms which some mothers ranges from 13 to 16 years of age and to find an answer on why these happen.

Being the only Catholic country in Asia and with hope that through the images I took, I aspire that I can open the eyes of my audience, the government and the church that they should focus also on educating the people especially the younger ones on family planning and sex education. I feel that through my images, I can tackle more issues that our country is experiencing and show to the world the reality and hopefully find myself one day that the images I captured will change not only my country but also the world.

My passion for photography is driven by my willingness to learn something new about life everyday. Whenever I’m traveling, I want my camera to capture stories that will make that place unique and show them to the world on what life is all about.

I know that with my 2 years of experience in photography as a hobby. There are still a lot of lessons and techniques I need to learn in this art and still got a long way to go. With the travel scholarship and to be mentored by Mr. Jason Edwards, I am sure that this would be a great help. For me, I believe that travel and experience are the great teachers. And with the knowledge I get from this scholarship, I can also share it to people who wants to pursue photography for a cause.
