Real Colombia

My parents emigrated to the US from Colombia, and I've always had one foot in each country, both culturally and mentally. I've been looking for ways to travel back with more frequency and produce work that captures the experience of traveling through Colombia, but also, what it means to be part of the Colombian diaspora, as a significant number of Colombians are scattered around the world, many with hopes of eventually returning. I work as a freelance photographer but have recently started to get into video production and when I saw World Nomads was sponsoring a trip to Colombia, I knew I had to sign up. If I were to be chosen, I would use the opportunity to explore my own roots and tell stories that break away from the negative mainstream conception of Colombia, but rather capture the wide range of this beautiful, complex country.
