You so captured my "romantic" feelings about this miraculous place. It's what I went to Spain for. And, YES, you must go back when the gardens are in their glory. I think you are lucky to have been there when the focus could be on the palace, cause once the gardens come in to their full glory it's hard to focus on anything else.
