Ich bin ein Berliner - My scholarship entry

I am a 19-year-old rising junior at the University of Florida studying visual journalism. I think I would make an excellent candidate for this scholarship mainly due to my passions for adventure and travel. I've loved photography since I was very young, but my interest was particularly sparked this past summer when I traveled to Berlin, Germany as a part of a photojournalism program with my university. Berlin was the perfect stage for me to practice capturing the perfect moment. An iconic city with a dark past, I often found myself in awe as I came to terms with it's not-so-distant history. Now one of the cheapest cities to live in Europe, Berlin has become the home of a large young creative demographic with tons of start-up companies being based there. After the program was over, I only had enough money to stay in Europe for another week so I traveled alone to Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands by train and observed(and photographed) more of Europe's great cities and terrain. Coming from a small town in Florida, I never realized how big the world really was. Besides my love for exploring this huge planet, I also think this program is perfect for me because I think I would greatly benefit from a professional mentoring experience. I would love the opportunity to learn and grow as a photographer and journalist. I am a student of the world and I think this would be the ultimate learning experience for me.
