My Scholarship entry - Survival, and how they do it

India | Saturday, November 22, 2014 | 5 photos

As I travel, my camera remains my most faithful companion. It started with a Praktica my father owned way back around 15 years ago. The initial fascination with photography has culminated into a passionate desire to capture everything around me through a lens. Coupled with an yearning to travel, discover and connect, I often wander into uncharted territory and unusual places.

When I was told of a difficult yet fascinating Chadar trek in Ladakh, it immediately piqued my interest. Walking on a frozen Zanskar river, surviving in temperatures of -30°C & a fascinating story of locals using this trek as a means of trade and supplies convinced me that my faithful companion would be very busy.

Photography is my attempt to capture & share the experiences which demand to be felt. The challenge to click how I see through my eyes, express & tell a story through a shot is what drives me, urging me to step out of my comfort zone, to learn more. An opportunity with Jason would be a huge learning curve for me, to travel, to see how he sees, and to learn how he does what he does best.

Eyes that look are common, eyes that see are rare. I want to be among the rare, with a camera to tag along.
