Dominos – This famous Cuban pastime is been enjoyed by these Habaneros in the former house of Fidel Castro’s sister. Sense of community is very important to the way of life of Cubans. All over Cuba people are enjoying each other’s company, whether it’s over a game of dominos or on one’s front veranda swinging back and forth on a rocking chair with cigar in mouth. Interaction via social media is not necessary here!

Vintage Cuba - On my travels I met an English woman who told me since her last visit to Cuba 3 years ago there were many more classic cars on the road. About a year ago Raul Castro introduced economic reforms to raise extra money for the embattled economy. Now a greater number of Cubans have money to restore their cars and it was evidently clear with hundreds of these shiny American 1950s cars cruising the Cuban roads today. A stunning depiction into what the capitalist era may have looked.

Mid Afternoon on The Malecón – This is the place to be, teenagers can get a reprieve from the stifling afternoon sun and a chance to socialise and laze around on the rocks, meanwhile the more daring youths dive into the Gulf of Mexico waters without any caution for their well-being. Momentarily oblivious to that mighty land merely 100 miles to the north who for the past 50 years has helped prevent any kind of real progress.
