I think I should I win because...
I Love….
Photography
Storytelling
People
Places
Nature
Life
And Learning!
My profession is as a Community Educator, and as such, I have a love of people and learning. But I am ready to embark on new direction for my life. As Steve Jobs put it “the only way to do great work, is to love what you do.“ I want to live, learn and develop my photographic abilities and emerge as a professional who is able to make a career from doing what I love….and I hope I won’t “settle” for anything less. I am dedicated and will stay up all day and all night if that is what it takes during this amazing scholarship opportunity (as long as I can drink coffee - another one of my loves!)
So as an enthusiastic beginner, I was truly excited when I seen this opportunity to listen to, learn from, inquisitively enquire about, embrace new ways, change any bad habits and work hard for a leading professional photographer. Of course all this, whilst shooting wildlife/communities in a magnificent country such as South Africa.
My set of images were taken during a 6 week trip to Bangladesh in January 2008 and I hope that it captures some of the colour, humanity and culture that I passionately embraced during this wonderful trip. Some of my images have told their story through Flickr if this constitutes a contribution to the art of photography I don't know? However, 3 images are featured as a front cover to a published travel book whose proceeds go to an orphanage I visited and that, I hope, makes a lasting contribution to the lives of those I met.
Through learning I can explore the world around me, develop myself, and live out my dreams. I hope that my work inspires you to give me the chance to develop alongside you. Thank you for your consideration.
