My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Inside every person is a little person, a child; their inner child. Their inner child is what gives them curiosity, drives them to explore, to try new activities and to learn new things. Different people allow their inner child to affect them on different levels. My inner child pushes me, it makes me spontaneous, and it’s the reason I travel; to experience things that most people never experience. It’s also the part of me that loves stories and tales, especially of unusual people, cultures and places. It is the reason I took up photography. Photography is the medium that allows me to tell the stories that I want to tell in a way that I want to do it.
In my opinion photography is the most powerful tool we have to drive change. We only have to look back at the most influential photographers; the Kevin Carters and the Nick Uts, to realise how much power we have every time we pick up a camera. I want to harness this power and use it to teach people and to change people’s lives for the better. I feel that the National Geographic travel scholarship would be the perfect spring board to making the dream of becoming a full time travel and humanitarian photographer a reality.
