Children of Vanuatau learning to be adults

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Vanuatu | Wednesday, January 9, 2013 | 5 photos

Our cruise ship stops at Vanuatu. We hop off the ship and are taken to an island. We travel by bus along a very bumpy dirt road until we reach the end. We get out of the vehcile and are surrounded by some gorgeous trees. Everything was quiet, maybe a little too quiet. We start hearing calls, squeals, howls.. but they sound human not animal. Finally in two lines a bunch of men jump out from behind the bushes. They start doing a fascinating tribal dance. But what fascinated me more was the small boys coming along behind them, trying to keep up and do what the adults were doing. The children were dressed in the same native costumes as the adults, made of leaves. We follow the line down the road and reach a man making native food. He even starts the fire with 2 sticks. And not far away the children trying to do the same. We then are taken to what seemed to be a giant bath tub. Inside were women and water. And a child. They slap the water and make the most beautiful music. All the time the child couting them in. I have a recently developed deep passion for not just photography, but fr capturing moments. Conveying an emotion. Why choose me? Because I see something others dont. Thankyou
