Vama Veche - an incomprehensive paradise!

Vama Veche

Vama Veche... In English might be translated as The Old Border. It is called like this because it is the last village in Romania on the road to Bulgaria. Please allow me to unveil this incomprehensive paradise!
You get there by car, or by train, or by bike. It doesn't matter how, but you need to take a picture next to the sign with the village name. It's rusted and full of stickers. That's the Check In without any phone attached! So let's go further. Uuuu... white sand is sticking on your ankles. Beware! It's the stickiest sand you've ever seen. Impossible to remove without part of your epidermal tissue! But don't worry, it will be the cheapest and dearest souvenir you'll have from Vama Veche. And speaking of souvenirs... here comes the first attraction. On the main street that takes you to the sea side (the only street I might say) you'll find lots of booths full of handmade stuff. Real pieces of art. My favorite was the old man who was carving miniature wooden spoons, and his niece was transforming them into earrings. $2/ piece! Now that's an investment!
Can you get straight to the sea, or you'll be tempted by the terraces. Cold beer, melon lemonade, ice coffee. What will be your chill delight? And for lunch try the fried anchovy with lots of garlic sauce and lemon. Stinky but delicious! How am I still drooling while I write this!
Camping time! Because you have to try the tent experience in Vama Veche! I recommend to find a place further from the center. You might get to the nudist section, but if you don't mind the view, it is the most quiet place on the shore!
And then the night has come... Camp fires, parties, street artists, folk concerts. It is like a street festival that is going on every night. The spirit of this resort is in the air, and you breathe on its rhythm with your sandy toes and your salty hair. Everybody is everybody's friend. Some call it too hippie, others too hipster, other too overrated. I just have it as one of my travel treasure. And I'm more than happy to share it with you!
The total cost for 5 days (and nights!) in Vama Veche? Less than $150, let's say $200 if you're a big spender. The memories? Good enough to be willing to start an annual relationship with this resort. I know I did...
