My Scholarship Entry, "Geisha - Artists of the Floating World"

Outside the bathroom in my family home are shelves of National Geographics, bowing under the weight of nearly 100 years of issues. I don’t think that my parents could have predicted the hunger for travel and photography that they would give me – there’s something so special about being able to pick up any issue and be transported to another place and time. It has followed me throughout my life, and given me the passion to pursue my dream job as a foreign aid worker and travel photographer, so that I can one day I can show a new generation the wonders of nature and the incredible variety of cultures on our planet.
A passion for photography can only take my skills so far, so the opportunity to advance my technique and learn from one of my heroes would be a life-changing experience. As an aside, summers in the Dolomites as a young girl gave me a passion for climbing that has stayed with me since, so the ability to hike across Greenland would be a dream come true!
I’m lucky to have the chance to try for this incredible experience, and I know that my passion for photojournalism and my reverence for National Geographic would help me to flourish in such an amazing environment.
