Curiosity never killed the cat, it only made it wiser

Documentary Scholarship 2011 entry

WORLDWIDE | Thursday, 16 June 2011 | Views [184] | Scholarship Entry

I was inspired by my 2-week trip chasing ticks off the dog, in bedsheets, clothes, and hair. A constant struggle between human & bloodsucking insect, I saw an opportunity to turn paranoia and fear into curiosity. I grabbed my Mac, my grandpa’s camera & my holga fish eye lens... I began hunting ticks.
Previous film experience is producing a 10min doc on human trafficking & narrative shorts & fashion videos in Vancouver, while working as a personal assistant making ends meet, & saving to travel.
My passions are travel, and film ultimately wanting to mesh these together and continue exploring, & and discovering the essence within peoples journeys of why they do what they do. Each of us are more similar then the borders & walls we put up within ourselves and between cultures. This is where my curiosity gets the better of me. To have the opportunity to spend time in Arnhem Land seeing a culture so rich in values, communication with the land and an interdependent support system is a lesson I think we could all take back with us. To take this & film mentorship would be invaluable in building my confidence as a documentary filmmaker.
