My Scholarship entry - The "Drunken Horse Festival" or Dokai Matsuri in Kumamoto, Japan

As a Kentucky native, I grew up in a rather small corner of the world. During university I was lucky enough to be able to take part in several study abroad programs, which forever changed my life. I realized that every day there were people in this world who were living extraordinary lives that they view as mundane or ordinary. I am fortunate to have traveled to Japan with my wife to teach English and live in such a place.
My love of photography grew as an extension of my travels. To me, the best souvenir to bring back home to loved ones is a piece of the journey I took-to share the experience through pictures. It does not stop there, however. I want to give people the thirst for more, to inspire them to embark on their own. I want my pictures to move the viewer to act and think, then travel. This is why I want this scholarship.
Growing up I knew that I wanted to travel because of the pictures in National Geographic and publications like it. I want to inspire others to explore the world. I love photography; it is my passion. Through photography I can share my other passion, travel. I want to learn how to do that better from those who are masters at inspiring future explorers.
