My Travel Writing Scholarship 2011 entry - My Big Adventure

INDONESIA | Monday, 21 March 2011 | Views [270] | Scholarship Entry

Previously,if I go to somewhere..my goal is just to visit, to see different thing, to meet old friends, to gather with family, to taste their cakes, to eat their cooking. And then going home, and continue my daily life.
That day was in October 2010, I felt like a needy to refresh my mind, and I had a friend as a company. So we planned to go somewhere. Our theme was religious adventure. We planned to visit religious traditional school, mosque and also waterfall. Google is global application that support our journey to search the place. And we picked 4 cities : Cepu, Ngawi, Demak and Semarang (Cepu and Ngawi are located in East Java. Demak and Semarang are located in Central Java) . 3 of 4 cities is unknown and even we continued searching data, I thought we were having limited information and we were just 2 girls..so going somewhere new place, meeting stranger people was rather challenge for me. Deep inside me was not comfortable, seems a lot of question were flying in my head, how about our security, was it safe? How about if we were lost and nobody there to ask information. I thought these were my only struggling.
When day near come, suddenly my friend changed the itinerary, she said, it was better to get more time in the final city and comfortable journey. She changed the train schedule earlier and city route schedule. Actually I did not like this, unexpected change. I tried to argue her idea, and I saw that she kept believe that was ideal itinerary for 3 days adventure. And finally I got enlightenment in mind, this was not only my journey..its 2 people journey..so I should have positive mind, could be she was right..so I let her change the plan. We met in train station and went by train at 20:30 . We predicted this journey took 8 hours and would be arrived in Cepu in dawn time. But the train was late 2 hours. We arrived at morning, and got called from my colleague, “Are u allright?”. And I said, “I am fine”..and he asked again, “Did you ride Anggrek train?”. And I said “We changed the train”..and he said..”Thanks God..there was an accident, read online news”..And I’ve got little pause in saying. I searched online news. There was big train accident .2 train accidents in contiguous time.. I wake my friend up, and she was shocked like I was. both said Alhamdulillah (Thanks God)..Anggrek train was our previously train. After that event, everything that I saw was beautiful.
From Cepu, we kept follow our schedule, going to Ngawi by bus. We chose to sit in front row. We could see left and right view, green tree, sometimes we passed through jati wood. So different view with our city, Jakarta. And we decided to eat pecel in a food hall, still in bus terminal. Pecel is a food that contains mix vegetables with sweet peanut sauce. The owner of the food store asked us where place we want to visit. And seems waterfall was common destination. She said nicely to go there with local motorcycle rider, because only that vehicle could access that waterfall. Walking to waterfall took more than half hour. But it was worthed when I touched the clear water. Then straight went back to Cepu train station to catch train to go to Semarang in afternoon. But at this point, our schedule was halt. The train was cancelled, impacted from train accident. So we should waited for 4 hours to go to next train. But our body was full of sweat, tired and hot. Then we decided to stay in Cepu at night rather in Semarang. I cancelled our reservation in Semarang hotel and eliminate our plan to walking at Semarang street and taste good food. The next day, we went by train as morning we could, tried to keep our schedule. The next adventurous was still on track, even rather slightly rush.
This journey, in my heart, God has given me the best gift, the air. I still can breathe freely and plan for the next adventure. Thanks God.
