My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Japan | Monday, January 7, 2013 | 5 photos

When I was growing up I used to spend every summer visiting my grandparents in their beautiful redwood house in California. One of the things I most looked forward too was looking through all the National Geographic magazines that my grandfather had collected since the 1930s. I'd pick up copies from different decades and what really inspired me was how constant the quality of the photography was. It's something that has always stuck with me and now as an adult who loves taking photographs it's this level of quality that I most aspire too.

Photography to me means freedom, the freedom to walk off the beaten path and explore the world. A chance to meet people and go places that tourists often don't venture too, an excuse to be curious if you will.

The great thing about this scholarship is how hand's on it is. I never like to just stand back and be an observer and for that reason being able to assist and learn from Jason first hand will be something I'd love to do and also an environment I'd thrive in.
