Last week was probable the most I have ever worked in a single week with the exception of Thanksgiving week last year. The location I am currently working at moved, therefore the 4 workers there were responsible for moving everything belonging to the company. Granted, there were other construction/network/IT/realestate/inventory/merchandizing/operations teams there to help but the bulk of the work was left to the sales department (aka, us). We ran into a few hiccups along the way, some more serious than others, but all in all it went well. Now I get to put my feet up and relax at home. Ahhh, what a great feeling!
The other day, P and I were talking about all of our favorite Autumn activities. We decided that baking a pumpkin pie from scratch (really truly scratch) was top on our 2011 Autumn Bucket List. Sooo, we found an awesome pumpkin patch to venture out on yesterday afternoon and selected the perfect pumpkins with which to make a pumpkin pie, jack o'lanterns and baked seeds. Unfortunately, time was not on our side yesterday so we set the pumpkins aside for Wednesday night bake-a-thon and tested out a Texas BBQ dive just down the road from his house. MMMMMMmmmmMMMMM! It was so darn tootin` good that it made me just about throw on a pair of cowboy boots and start line dancing.. just about.
Yesterday, P also picked up Wally and grabbed Freckles as he will be cat sitting for me since I am going out of town next week. It always feels a bit strange being in my own home but without Freckles on my heels at all times. However, when I woke up this morning I realized just how deep of a sleep I got since I was not getting pounced all over due to kitty play and food begging. Then I got thinking to myself "Is this what it is like for parents when the kids are at Grandma's and Grandpa's for the weekend?? NOW I understand!" Ok, so I don´t really truly understand because clearly I do not have kids but I could begin to imagine what it must feel like.
Speaking of kids, some friends in the area recently had a baby girl and I got to hold her when she was a few days old. My heart melted! I have had the opportunity to hold a lot of little babies recently and it makes me realize several things. One, how segregated I am from multi-generational portions of society. Two, while many times I put on my "tough girl" face as I have been living far away from family for quite some time, I thoroughly miss being around swarms of little kids and big families. Three, I need to become more involved in my community and hopefully bridge some of these gaps. I think I just gave myself a project. More on the results of that when they develop.
Lastly, I was introduced to a woman at church, by the priest and P, who is from Argentina and is heavily into the interpreting circles of the community. She also teaches interpreting courses at a local college in Chicagoland. After speaking with her, I realized how much I really want to start preparing myself to make the transition to a field better suited for myself. She strongly recommended a two year program that would help develop my interpreting skills and give me a stronger network in Chicagoland. I am just starting to look into my options but I think it is something I will strongly consider. I will keep you posted with my decisions as they come.

Until next time!
