Yesterday I went to a pumpkin farm about 20 mins southeast of Madison with two friends and had an absolute blast! My body really needed the fresh country air after being cooped up sick in my apartment for two weeks. We did everything from the huge petting zoo (where I almost kitty-napped the most adorable pure white kitten) to a corn maze and hayride out to a giant pumpkin patch. We even learned that pumpkins float in water! Who knew?! We also warmed up with hot cider and cider donuts - Mmm, a Fall must! While we were there it started snowing so we tried catching snowflakes on our tongues but they were too small. There was also a large pumpkin contest and the largest one weighed over 1,500 pounds. It was insane how large they were! The girls came back to my apartment and we had a Project Runway marathon while we ate pizza and carved our pumpkins.
Recently, I´ve stumbled upon some fantastic contacts for interpreting/translating. They´ve really been able to give me valuable insight on the industry and tips to get myself started. Who knew that by stopped by the Rosetta Stone kiosk at the mall to ask a few questions about the product that I´d meet a UW Russian Lit Masters student who is avidly working to break into the translating industry?? That´s just one incident that happened to me recently.
I have truely met some of the most inspiring people through my interest in languages. People of passion from all different walks in life who are always ready to lend a helping hand.
I´ve realized that I´m coming to a big cross-roads in life. I really have to take a step back and reevaluate what my goals are compared to what my current situation is presenting me. I´m slowly coming to terms with the fact that I won´t be able to travel too much for a few years until I get established and save up enough money. Ahhh, adult responsibilities are approaching too rapidly for my liking! Granted, with that I have many more options for careers - whether I want to get certifided for interpreting, for translating, or get my MBA and the best location to do any of those. I also want to save for my own pottery wheel, among other things such as a round-the-world ticket. The unknowns of my current situation are a bit stressful but all of the prospects within my reach are quite exciting!
