My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited - Iceland

Iceland | Monday, January 7, 2013 | flickr photos

Before I could read and long before the Internet, the photographs in the National Geographic Magazines were my door to the wider world. My father, an avid reader of the magazine, would explain the pictures, giving birth to my love of photography and desire to explore the world. From my first camera, I knew that I needed to use it to record my adventures. I love to travel, to observe other cultures and see how other people live. That love of travel is what drives me to take better images. It is the desire to capture the atmosphere of a place. To give the viewer the whole experience, the information which helps an experience become memorable. For the viewer to imagine what a place feels, smells and tastes like, the emotion of the event, an insight into the culture and lives of the local people. Awarding me this scholarship would be an investment in my skills and a whole generation of students. I strive to be the best teacher possible; that includes constantly improving my skills. The knowledge I would gain from this scholarship would allow me to combine my love of travel, photography with teaching and assist me to expand into the world of documentary photography.
