My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Philippines | Monday, January 14, 2013 | flickr photos

I’m Ian Marasigan, a freelance cinematographer based in Manila, Philippines. I inherited my first camera from my father. A Nikon FE in 2008 when I was 21. He never told me stories about his love for photography then again he didn’t have to. When I held my father’s camera for the first time, he didn’t have to tell me how or why he loved photography so much. I just knew and understood it was meant to be.
Photojournalism is a dream that I could never bring myself to pursue whole heartedly because of uncertainty. There is so much to learn and so much to experience in the world. I know it’s impossible to capture all of the world’s beauty in one lifetime but at least I should try. Despite my profession entails me to use a camera most of the time. There are still so many things I have to learn. There are many lessons beyond technical.
I enjoy pushing myself physically to enduring the test of the body’s limitation. Patience and determination is what I’ve learned from filmmaking, story and people are others. Capturing a story through a couple of images given the difficult circumstances gives such a rewarding feeling. Putting myself out there in an unfamiliar place is just thrilling.
