Exploring the Cold

My Scholarship entry - Learning from the Wind and Snow.

I wish to become a better photographer. Through photography I wish to make a difference in the world though storytelling. This opportunity would allow me to secure a foothold in a world I wish to become a part of. A world that encourages intellectual curiosity, aesthetics, passionately told stories that affect that lives of those around them.

I graduated from college three years ago with a major in English and Humanities. I did this in order to understand the art of storytelling. When I graduated, my father gave me my first camera, his old Fujica. It was through this camera I learned a different form of narrative. A way of sharing a story, caught in a moment, with the world. I have learned a great deal by myself, however, I wish to pursue this passion as a career and more so, as a way of life. To do that, I need a mentor. I humbly ask for the opportunity to learn, through first hand experience, how to capture a story through a lens and by doing so, enrich others lives.

I spend last year teaching in South America. This past summer, I spend every weekend climbing Colorado's 14ers (always with my trusted camera, Hans). I am open minded, engaged, and craving to learn. Salud.
