Malagasy life

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Madagascar | Thursday, August 26, 2010 | 5 photos

The journey through and living with the Malagasy people was undoubtedly beautiful, challenging and life changing. I recently graduated University with a degree in Geography and figured that if I was to be dealing with global issues, I might as well get out and see the world. After much debate of what I should do, I decided upon volunteer work with the World Wide Fund for Nature in Madagascar for 3 and a half months. The work would be dealing with a reforestation project in the south western spiny forest. We were set up in rural villages for the majority of our stay in the country. Living with local people, learning local culture and living alongside the community living every day with them. This has certainly placed my life in Canada in perspective.
The photos taken represent life with the Malagasy people and demonstrate the beauty, resilience, resourcefulness and loving ability of the people in the region I was working.
If given this tremendous opportunity to work with and learn from a professional photographer It would allow me to convey the trips that I have planned to do more effectively, with better results of showing the true nature of the scene in front of the lens. Traveling to a remote country such as the Kingdom of Bhutan would be another life changing experience and allow the person who gets chosen to experience a culture and a landscape like none other.
