My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Since I was a kid I have made incursions into theatre, writing, filmmaking and music. However, I must confess, it wasn't till a few years ago that photography came into my life. Prior to spending four months around South America I decided that I needed to keep a record for myself of the trip I have been dreaming with since reading Che Guevara's Motorcycle Diaries.
So I took my parent's reflex camera and told my best-friend he had one month to show me how to use it. After agreeing on the price for the lessons (a six-pack of beer).
One month passed and I found myself in Rio de Janeiro. My not so developed skills and the fear of taking out a camera in the middle of an unknown city proved not to be the best combination for quality photographs. However, as I discovered my continent the photographer inside of me discovered his need to capture forever all the beautiful and not so beautiful places and people that came across my way. I needed to show everyone I knew the beauty of the simple life of a village in the middle of the Amazon, the richness of Peruvian gastronomy, the hard life of a Bolivian salt miner and the never sleeping Buenos Aires.
