Reifel Reflections

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos

This series of photos was taken by my son Hugh Montague, age 18. Hugh is a non-reader and writer, due to significant developmental disabilities. Despite his difficulties with written language, however, Hugh has great artistic promise with a keen eye for detail and an imaginative and unique vision. This series of photos was taken by Hugh as part of a high school photography class assignment. All the photos were taken on a cold winter morning visit to Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Ladner, British Columbia, Canada in January 2010. It was a beautiful cool still morning, with hazy ground fog shrouding the foliage with a heavy dripping dew. The series of photos captures some of the beauty and serenity of the winter morning, through reflections on the bogland water and raindrops on winter foliage. Hugh recently completed high school, and is currently taking fine art courses in painting and wood turning. He would love the opportunity to expand his horizons, both geographically and artistically, through the adventure that the World Nomads Photography Scholarship trip to Bhutan would offer. With his artistic eye and colourful imagination, who knows what powerful imagery he could create, particularly with some expert coaching.
