Prepping for Asia

CANADA | Thursday, 31 May 2012 | Views [486]

Well ive been torn as to which continent to explore... FIRST! Well after months of research and discussing with fellow travellers. I finally decided Asia would be the one i would travel to. So now how to budget for the trip and WHAT TO PACK??? Spending hours every week researching blogs, journals, books, people, trying to figure out a route, packing list, places to see, avoid etc Quite the research project!!!! But it is a passion and i enjoy every moment.

First things first, figure out the best(As in cheapest) place to fly into/from. My decision was to Fly into Beijing from Edmonton. Im planning on starting April 2013(DDAY). I am going through the FlighNetwork.com they seem to have the best deals

Next get an idea of how long to go for, what to pack? First thing first how much money can i save up, costs of being away, how much can i live on?

Once i have an idea of departure date, and how long i plan to stay away. Now to get supplies ie; Backpack, headlamp, hiking boots, sleeping bag, clothes, raingear, etc Now the problem of reducing it down to less than my own body weight haha. Research Online, tips to pack and all that. Get an idea of what i plan on doing there such as hikes, partying, tours etc Then once i have that idea i am interested in, now to root out what i need, want!! Once youve got it all, pack it all in your ruck! Take it for a walk/hike, if you have new boots wear them as youll want them broken in as MUCH as possible. Good tips are to wear 2 pair socks one really thin pair of socks like dress shoe socks, then a thicker pair, this will reduce blistering. After that hike take everything out look at what you would be willing to carry around and lighten the load. Pack it up and take it out for another walk. After that leave it for a few days, come back look at what you have and purge some more then repack it and go for a walk. Ive done this 3 times already started off 55lbs now im down to 40lbs just by ridding myself of some uneccessary clothing etc. Anyways ill write again soon

Cheers!
