On the ancient Mayan route - Palenque

AUSTRALIA | Monday, 23 December 2013 | Views [324]

After the excitement of our collectivo ride, we finally arrived at Palenque where we were seemingly dropped of on the outskirts of this town. Thankfully local taxis are abundant and we were delivered to our hotel. Not the best one we have stayed in, but it was spacious and had air conditioning and hot showers. The temperature and humidity is rising as we get closer to the coast.

We are still in a jungle area and this provides the perfect backdrop to ancient Mayan city of Palenque. Shrouded in heavy humidity and overcast conditions, the main temple is still in remarkable condition and makes an impressive appearance as you emerge from the heavily treed entrance.
