Hogsback, a small village in the Amatola Mountains of the Eastern Cape, South Africa, is known for being a getaway destination away from city life. With its indigenous forests and pristine waterfalls, Hogsback is believed to be a place of great spirituality, deeply connected to mother nature and with an affinity to fairies and folk tales. Its precisely the mystic and unusual atmosphere of the place that inspired both of us to explore it further. Both Brad and I, Jack, are Journalism students at Rhodes University, specializing in Television for our third year of journalism studies. Throughout the year we have filmed profiles on people and places, news pieces and participatory videos. But this is the first travel documentary that we have filmed separate from the course. We have learned so much in one year handling a camera, and it has undoubtedly created a great avidity for filming short films and documentaries. We believe that some things in the world can only truly be seen through a lens, and with the flair of Brad's presenting and my filming, we hope to make those things visible. But we first need to get out into the world to do so, and winning the scholarship would be our ticket.
