Lungenheilstätte Grabowsee

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Germany | Friday, January 4, 2013 | 5 photos

Lungenheilstätte Grabowsee is an abandoned former tuberculosis sanatorium that was built in 1896. The sanatorium was very successful and then became the Red Cross Sanatorium for the Working Class. After the first World War the it was taken over by the Brandenburg Insurance Company. From 145-1995, the sanatorium was then for 50 years as a military hospital by the Russians. The grounds are quite large and it's easy to visually travel back in time in your mind and imagine what the place used to be like over the years. Some of the rooms contain traces of their former uses, like an old waiting room, the entertainment hall - where an old keyless piano sits on a stage or the empty room with just a metal bedframe. It's a beautiful, haunting and lonely place.
