My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Italy | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 4 photos
I've often wondered why I haven't taken many photos around my home town of Melbourne. I think it has to do with everything around me being so familiar. I know I will always have the opportunity to snap shots of the Yarra River or magical St. Kilda on a sunny afternoon. When things are familiar they are less exciting which is why I love travel photography so much. I am able to combine my passion for learning and understanding new cultures, whilst documenting them through photography. The scenes and photos that I have taken are new and exciting and I know I will never again get the opportunity to shoot them - they are a once in a lifetime shot.
I like constantly learning and adapting to conditions to be able to take a great shot. I have so much to learn from the technical side of travel photography, particularly around making quick decision about settings so that I can not only capture the 'image' but also the 'moment'. I think this is a big part of documenting other cultures and places.
These photos were taken in Italy and whenever I see them they remind me of the history and culture present. From the cracked paint on the wall, to the old friends having a chat on the bench. Life seems to move slower. They remind me of the fact that there are so many places I have yet to experience and discover.
I would love the opportunity to travel to Bhutan with Jason and continue learning and developing my photographic skills.
