My Travel Writing Scholarship 2011 entry - My Big Adventure

I may not be much to convince you by telling this story, but you gotta believe that what I'm sharing here has been my unforgettable memory. I really do hope it's good enough to you to choose me as a winner. I've been to Perth, Australia in December 2002. That's the first time I went to another country. We transited in Singapore first and my parents' friend welcomed us well. He was Indonesian representative to domicile as a diplomat there and since that time, I've set diplomat as my goal. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to stay in Singapore. We continued our flight and headed to Perth. After 5 hours of flight, we arrived in Perth. We stayed at my uncle's house with his children who studied there. I was really amazed by the new atmosphere of that city. I felt like I'm going to travel back here someday. That was the first time I met foreigners. I thought they would act unfriendly, but I made a big mistake! They were so friendly and helpful. One day I went to a local souvenir shop with my dad and my brother. I accidentally stepped on my brother foot then he's mad at me and started to pinch my arm. The shopkeeper who saw it suddenly said, "It's not good to hit a girl, young man." My brother unexpectedly said sorry to me and as a gift, the shopkeeper gave each of us souvenirs for free. It's a priceless moment for me because after that day, brother never pinches or yells at me again. I thank that person until now. We went to a wishing well too. I had no idea, I mean, throw your coins and ask your wishes? Will it work for real? But I thought it's okay to try. As a kid, I only wished for a new cell phone because I lost my previous one and my parents refused to buy me again. I guess it's about a week after I threw my coin and by chance my aunt gave me her new buy cell phone due her inability to use high-tech. I believe that there's no such thing as coincidence because I'm sure that everything happen for a reason. I stayed in Perth for two weeks. I haven't been able to return to the city due my busy schedule at school. Besides, my cousins are no longer live there, so it definitely needs more cost to travel back.
