My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Netherlands | Saturday, July 6, 2013 | 5 photos
I finished a bachelor study in Russian, and a master in Holocaust and Genocide studies. I work for a few years as a freelance journalist. I've made journalistic trips to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central-Asia. Russia. This winter I travelled 3 months through Eastern Siberia. Temperatures untill -40 degrees. Since a few years I discovered photography as a means to tell a story. I've used it to complement my written articles. But more and more I start to see the strength of a photograph by itself. I want to develop myself more as a photojournalist/travel photographer. And that is why I applied to this. My goal is to become a professional photographer.. By assisting a professional photographer, and learning the skill in the field, I think, is the most effective way to learn.
As a journalist I have a trained eye to see interesting and meaningful situations. For me it is most important that the picture tells a story, that the picture has meaning. Whether the picture is 'pretty' in a more conventional way, is less important.
During my travels in Russia I stayed as a guest in peopels houses. This made it possible to portrait the intimacy of the daily life
