Have you ever been to a Chinese university canteen?Maybe the food there are not delicious for many people. To me,it give me a new perspective to look at the big China.
I finished my undergraduate study at Changsha,in Hunan province, where people eat the most spicy food in China. After that, I moved to modern Shanghai, where the local cooking culture can live without sugar.
Since China has vast territory, large population, many students leaving to a city far from their hometown. One, who came from an area in north China, grown up with food mainly made of wheat like noodles, steamed bun and dumplings. He came to South and began the life full of rice.It is much common in Chinese university.
Once i heard one friend said, when he is walking on street in Changsha,he could even smell the air is so hot.Red is the most common color you can see in big square plates with food in it.Before we came to Changsha, most of us couldn't accept food with even a bit of hot pepper in it.However after we left there, some of us become hero in spicy food eating. It once liked a ability that I could show off to others until I turn to Shanghai where lacked scope for my ability.I made myself adapting to the dishes with sugar in it.
University canteens gives me insights to understand part of the students, part of the society. When the school bells ring, students stands in long queue waiting to get the food.In Changsha, students crowded at the window, the hot food make them can't resist the tempting smell.Even who don't eat them, they enjoy the smell. Some moments I can feel the nature of them,Chinese people regard food an important part of life.People prefers spicy food have enthusiasm and bravery in nature like fire burn out.Different in Shanghai, people there enjoy delicate lifestyle, desserts and tea. This kind of food make me feel love at first sight, however it is too sweet if I eat everyday. It can't last long.
