My Scholarship entry - Thirst

Australia | Sunday, November 23, 2014 | 4 photos

I am a Venezuelan biologist. I have worked as a field assistant in various research projects for ten years in my home country. Over the years I have learned to deal with different people and environments in extreme conditions. My observational skills and empathy have been developed and improved during this time.

At university, I found that field practices were more interesting than lectures. These practices gave me the opportunity to see the whole scene: animals, plants, landscape, people, culture, and their relationships. These factors together hinder the understanding of reality. With time, I understood that the meaning of life depends on how it is framed, as in the pictures!

The chemical photography was my first approach to photography. For me it was a magical experience in black and white. Consequently, it took me a long time to switch to digital format.

Currently I am living in Australia looking for new challenges. I think the Travel Photography Scholarship is a great opportunity for me to combine biology and photography, and to improve my photographic technique. I want my photographs convey the feelings that inspired me to take them, which they speak by themselves.
