After contemplating my favourite place for quite some time, I remember one location that makes all others secondary, and I think in fact that it is only after my travels that it has occurred to me the immense beauty and peacefulness of this place. After all those I have recently visited; it is my most desired location, and one I shall ardently return to at any given opportunity.
It is a tiny little fishing village called Craster, located on the Northumbrian coast of England. It beholds outstanding natural beauty, but not in a smooth luxurious silky kind of way, instead it offers a wild rough mystery – or at least this is how I remember it. I visited Craster several times as a child, and knew no greater pleasure than climbing the rocks next to a choppy Northern sea or exploring the ancient ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. The entirety was a perfect playground for the imaginative child, and admittedly still is as an adult.
I have never been as partial to a tropical setting, but rather adore the wild choppy waters of Craster. The coast line itself is very beautiful, and is fringed with the rocks and boulders aforementioned. There are numerous rock pools containing curious delicate life, and are blistered with plants and flowers, ideal for the nature lovers among you.
Behind the village lies a beach that looks like it has been stretched and rolled out into a smooth flattened state. The sand is soft and the sea here is moderately calmer most of the time but in stormy weather still plays victim to firmly powerful waters. From the beach you can sit safely and comfortably and watch the sea perform. It is so dramatic, yet peaceful, yet chaotic. I am addicted to its harsher weathers, where the sky is possessed with thick dense clouds and the winds spin the waves like some exotic dancer. I should have mentioned before it is named Embleton Beach, and it is my haven.
This invigorating place is so different from anywhere I have been. It somehow seems to be separate from reality, and is a perfect retreat from the madder world. It can quite literally blow away the cobwebs! It is woven with a stimulating history and yet seems to almost be frozen in time. Craster has left its mark on me and does not compare with any place I have visited. Whether it is because it was my childhood adventure-land or due to the sheer complexity of this place, I am absorbed and contented in this English sea-side wonderland.
