My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Vietnam | Sunday, August 22, 2010 | 5 photos

Hi! My name is Heidi, and I am a fourth grade teacher and an adventurer at heart. My husband and I recently returned from a trip to Vietnam this past July. We were able to visit a village to do a rice distribution with a group of people who are outcast from Vietnamese society, and the photos I've included are specific people or children from those villages that stole my heart. Why did I apply? I've dreamed of being a travel photographer for years! Each time I travel, I capture the things that take my breath away- I am not a professional, but I would love to take my photography up a notch and learn from the best. I always teach my fourth grade students to go for their dreams and learn all they can to be the best at what they love. So, I'm just taking my own advice in applying for this scholarship! I have the days off that I could take for the trip, and I know my co-workers and students would be thrilled to see me pursuing a big dream. I am an experienced traveler- so I would be familiar with the unfamiliar, and trekking would not be a problem for me. I am 30 and in good shape. I have visited Asia before on my own personal trips. The closest I've been to Bhutan is Nepal when I was 19 years old. I don't think I've even been the same since- I was ruined for adventure, travel, and looking at the world through different eyes. I am easy to get along with, cheerful, and eager to learn. I have a servant's heart, so simply carrying equipment and assisting others while drinking in knowledge and practicing will make me a happy camper. I went to school for International Studies, and later became a teacher because I love children. My photography love has grown from traveling- and I think the pictures I chose express a combination of all of the things that delight me. Thank you!
