Message Has A Power

Heidelberg Project in Detroit, Michigan

USA | Sunday, 10 May 2015 | Views [157] | Scholarship Entry

Why do they call it Detroit? I would choose ''Disappointment'' if someone would ask for its middle name. It's been three days since we got here, but I haven't seen anything spectacular. My friend is mumbling about a street art she found on the Internet. I know that we will go there in the end but even though I love street art, I don't think that it can change a whole picture I have so far.Money thrown away.

I guess that every city has its highlight and Heidelberg Project would definitely be Detroit's. It is a whole street screaming art. Mind-blowing and breath-taking master piece. The street seems like a whole new universe within Detroit. Tyree Guyton used to live here as a child and once he got back, he found it in complete ruins - filled with drugs and poverty. Who would have thought that a will of one man can change so many things, and most importantly, become recognized and inspirational for other people. This is definitely something that one fond of art must see. This project shows how taking a brush and paint to make art looks better than taking a gun or using drugs.

Too bad it is snowing. But even with this cold outside, we are not the only visitors now. It has so many details, signs and toys that get me into deep thinking and admiring, so instead of complaining about the cold, I feel like no time can be enough to see everything I am supposed to see. Even though we are freezing for around two hours now, I will never regret being here for so long. That is like a feeling I got when I was entering Anne Frank's House: I was not sure what awaits me inside or how you I handle it but it will be worth the trouble. This case is the same: I am not sure in how long my hands or ears will get frost-bites but even if they do,it will be worthy.

How much effort is needed to change a whole street and how it is possible that it is still there? True, they say that it went through two demolitions and destructions, but it survived. I am standing here today because someone found it important enough to keep it for almost 25 years. Unfortunately, art is taken for granted in many societies, but it is a great way of expressing yourself. It is powerful. Most of all I love the messages:''Art is truth'', ''Meet me half way'' and ''One step at a time''. Those are the only messages I can read in words, but there are so many other messages we can read between the lines and in the snow. I am going back to my thinking and exploring this place. Detroit, now I can start loving you.
