My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos

Place: Morocco
Theme: People

To capture a precise moment in time involves two aspects: the technical side—the angles, lighting, composition, and subject(s); but secondly and unequivocally, a shot requires passion. I am studying to be a journalist and while I may be at risk of sounding clichéd, a salient photograph merits more than a thousands words. Put simply, I love photography and I love travel. I chose to dedicate my five photos to Morocco. For me, Morocco represents a blend of rich and diverse cultures, languages, landscapes and people that I had longed to experience to comprehend. Bhutan has this exact beautiful appeal and an experience of this caliber with Jason Edwards would be sensational.

The five photographs are indicative and highly revealing of the people and lifestyles I witnessed there:

1 Boy at the fish market: I saw this boy as I was walking through the fish markets in the centre of the Souq in Essoauira. His livelihood is this stand. He was so relaxed and truly living.

2 The Docks: I witnessed these fish get hoisted up from the boats freshly docked from the morning catch. The lady rolled out her mat, arranged the fish and waited for her first buyers. From the men whispering in the background to the seagull, this scene optimizes the interaction and happenings at the docks.

3 Medina: This woman pondered over the exquisitely fresh olives, contemplating the weekly purchases—a delightful encounter.

4 Marrakech square: The main square in Marrakesh was a buzzing warren of liveliness and spectacle. The only way to capture a glimmer of the intense atmosphere was to climb a light pole!

5 Sahara Desert: Orange sands into infinity. The nomad navigates his way seamlessly through the every changing sands of the Sahara desert—acquired over a lifetime.
