Captivating Malaysia

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos

I immigrated to Canada from my native country, Iran in 1997. I have been always fascinated by art of photography due to its spontaneity and its amazing expressive power. I have been familiar with theoretic and technical aspect of microscopic science and, similarly, the optical concept of photography. However, I never had a chance to put it in practice. While I was a graduate student, a few years ago I had an opportunity to travel to Malaysia. I took advantage of the better market price for electronics and purchased my first "semi-serious" camera, a Panasonic Lumix FZ10 to capture the moments. I took advantage of the manual setting plus the super zoom capability (12x) considerably to capture my pictures.
Being from Iran, the first thing that fascinated me about Malaysia was the harmony between people from different faith living together. The tropical country has breathtaking nature, prosperous land, and dignified and hardworking people. Country is gracefully taking the root to modernity while keeping its values and traditions. Kuala Lumpur is a fascinating lively cosmopolitan. After several years what I remember the most is the homeless man in street of Penang who shared a broad smile while almost professionally posing for my camera as soon as he noted me. It was priceless.
This scholarship simply makes the dream come true, I certainly hope to be considered.
